A VILLAGE walk has raised £50 for North Petherwyn WI and £127 for the North Cornwall Open Award Centre Duke of Edinburgh’s group.

The walk took place on Saturday, September 1, organised by Pat Orridge, from North Petherwin, who is volunteer area coordinator for the Duke of Edinburgh’s group centre.

Parishioners turned out with their horses, dogs and bikes or just themselves for the walk, which ended up at Beaumont Court Care Home, where walkers could spend some time with the residents.

The aims of the North Cornwall Open Award Centre Duke of Edinburgh’s group are to make the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award more accessible to young people in North Cornwall, for example, those who cannot complete the award through school due to being home schooled, or those who have additional needs.

The centre’s committee/volunteers are all friends of Pat and local to North Petherwin.

The first group supported by the centre will be undertaking their Bronze assessed expedition next month.
