A WOMAN from Tintagel recently organised and undertook a group walk in order to raise money for the Missing People charity.
Bek Stratfield organised a ‘Walk for Finn’, raising funds for a charity close to her heart, Missing People.
After walking across Cornwall for two days, the group arrived in Boscastle where they had a well-deserved celebration at the Cobweb Inn on the evening of June 29.
Bek’s son Finn has been missing since July 8, 2017.
She said: “Finn is loved and missed so much by us all, and is never from our minds. The charity, Missing People, which Finn has been registered with since he went missing, have been by my side throughout this difficult journey. Myself and my family have had access to many services that the charity provide when a loved one is missing, and they have shown nothing but compassion for our situation.
“The goals for undertaking this walk were to raise awareness of Finn, raise money for Missing People who have helped us every week since Finn went missing, and continue to do so, and also to raise awareness of the charity in the South West.”
The group started their walk at 8am from the beach in Looe. It was one of the hottest days of the year, but they walked until 5.30pm when they reached Jamaica Inn, which was their overnight stop.
They walked for 37km on the first day, achieving a good few blisters! The group woke the following morning to thick fog, which wasn’t ideal for crossing the moor from Jamaica Inn, across to Brown Willy and Roughtor, before dropping down to the coast and Boscastle. Fog aside, they finally made it to Boscastle at 5.30pm.
Bek said: “I would like to thank all of my friends who joined us for the walk. As ever the tough challenge was done with love and laughter. The friendship and support that is shown is always a humbling experience.
“We raised over £6,000 for Missing People so far, and our Just Giving page is still up and running if you wish to donate.”
In March 2018, Bek and friends did the first ever ‘Walk for Finn’ for Missing People by walking the Saints Way, raising a considerable sum of money for the charity.
Bek added: “I am really proud to be undertaking the Walk for Finn 2019 to raise as much as we possibly can this year, and to be able to give something back to the charity that has helped us so much.
“So all it leaves me to do now is to ask you to donate as generously as you feel you can. Thank you so much in advance, lovely people!”
