AN URGENT call has been made for people who would be willing to volunteer during the annual Cornish Gorsedd, which, this year, will take place in Camelford.
As the 'Post' reported last week, plans are well in hand for the event, which will take place on Saturday, September 1.
But one worry facing the town's mayor, Cllr Rob Rotchell, is the need for a large number of volunteers to make sure everything goes smoothly.
This will include people to help make refreshments; set up the chairs in the circle on the field for the Bards; directing traffic; putting up signs; stewards; people to promote the event and to help with the many events that will be organised in the town in the week leading up to the big day.
Rob told the 'Post': "We just need people to help. There's a worry we won't have enough bodies."
Although the Gorsedd has the backing of the town council, Rob is keen to point out that it is not a Camelford Town Council event.
As well as generating support from people in the town, an appeal has also gone out to residents of other villages surrounding Camelford — such as Delabole, Tintagel, Boscastle, Davidstow, St Teath and more — to also get involved, as it is quite unlikely that these places will hold the Gorsedd in the future.
"It's for the greater community area that we serve."
The event — which has never been held in Camelford — is expected to bring in people from all over the country, and beyond, to the town. The Gorsedd is dedicated to the preservation of Cornwall's unique spirit, through literature, language, music and the arts.
If you would like more information or would like to get involved, go along to the meeting or contact Rob via the Camelford Town Council office on 01840 212880.
