SAVE the Children’s regional retail manager recently made a special visit to the Bude shop to congratulate and thank a volunteer for raising over £3,000 by selling her ‘Dittie’ booklets.

The charity’s regional retail manager, Krista Felek, paid a visit to the Bude branch recently to show her appreciation to volunteer, Gladys Heard, for raising such a substantial amount of money, which is hoped will contribute to helping the starving children in Syria.

Gladys has been a volunteer in the Bude shop, along with manageress, Barbara Colley, for many years.

Ninety three-year-old Gladys has always enjoyed writing rhymes, but sadly can no longer see to put pen to paper. However, she is determined to continue!

With the help of her daughter, Rosemary, who types the rhymes, and her niece, Grace, who illustrates the cover — as well as Martins Computer Services, who create the booklets — she is able to continue her fundraising.

Gladys has extended thanks to all her friends, who support her so generously. She said: “I say, I say — Ditties 12 is on its way!”
