A LAUNCESTON man has won first prize in his category at this year's Volunteer Cornwall Awards.
Colin Carvel, a retired local teacher, has been using his skills to volunteer over the years and encourages others to do so. He was nominated in the community category by Launceston Memory Café.
He said: "I have always been involved with volunteering. I taught for 40 years, and 20 of them I stayed in the boarding house, which meant 24 hours a day, seven days a week. I retired to look after my mother, who was ill, and joined the Retired and Senior Volunteer Programme, encouraging older people to volunteer their skills. I have been part of Launceston Memory Café, Launceston in Bloom, the Foodbank, Visiting Primary Schools and furniture store."
