VOLUNTEER drivers are needed in the Bude, Launceston, and Holsworthy areas for Transport Access People.

This is a service which allows people to book transport to healthcare appointments with the Plymouth Healthcare Trust and Plymouth Primary Care Trust through a single telephone call.

People in both Cornwall and Devon can obtain this service to their appointment through a local call number 0845 0539100.

Ann Lewis, the Assistant Director of TAP said: "We make it easier for patients who have no access to transport to book a voluntary car to get them to their appointment."

She continued: "We now have collaboration with the Plymouth Healthcare Trust and Primary Care Trust to provide this service which can be invaluable for those in isolated areas without their own transport or easy access to transport.

"We will give you advice about the cost of this service, the re-imbursement policy and whether there are cheaper options when you book."

But TAP is in need of more voluntary drivers for the late afternoon and evening trips in the Launceston, Bude and Holsworthy areas, expenses remuneration is given and for those who have time on their hands that they wish to fill this can be an extremely rewarding and satisfying vocation.

A lady volunteer who regularly drives for TAP and has been with them for a number of years says: "I find that I am not sat at home wondering how to pass the time. Transporting the clients is extremely rewarding especially with those who are very ill — it is a privilege to drive them. Their sense of humour is amazing, and it does give you a totally different outlook on life.

"Also, the TAP team in Truro are great people and it is a pleasure to work with them."

TAP is extremely grateful to their volunteer drivers as without their help many people simply would not be able to go out of their own front door.
