THE Feast of St Cuthbert Mayne, a patronal festival mass, was held at the Catholic Church of St Cuthbert Mayne, Launceston on Tuesday, November 29.
The Mayor and Mayoress of Launceston Cllr Rob and Pat Tremain were guests of honour. Nearly all the priests from Cornwall Deanery — eleven in all — were there to celebrate the mass, assisted by two deacons.
The Dean of Cornwall, Fr Jonathan Bielawski, was the chief celebrant, standing in for the Bishop of Plymouth, Rt Rev Christopher Budd, who was unwell. Some brothers from the Lanherne Monastery were also present. They brought the skull of Cuthbert Mayne, which was placed on the altar during mass.
After the mass there were refreshments in the parish hall, as several of the visitors had travelled a long way to get to Launceston.
