PUPILS in Class 3 at Whitstone Community Primary School rounded off their studies of the Victorians with a visit to Morwellham Quay. Included in the visit was a look at Copper Ore Cottage (the residence of James Medlen, who was the mine agent/assayer/harbourmaster at Morwellham when it was at its zenith, a miner's cottage, a lesson in the Victorian village school and a train ride on the narrow-gauge mine railway into the George and Charlotte Copper Mine. They also had an opportunity to board the restored ketch, Garlandstone, and find out what happened in the assayer's laboratory. For the full report, and a round-up of the area news and sport, see this week's edition of the Post.
