CHURCHGOERS in St Breward did their patron saint proud at the annual revel service to celebrate St Branwallader.

The church was almost full and involved as many individuals or groups as possible with their entertainment style to fit within the hour's service.

Organised by the Rev Canon Sherry Bryan, the service included — following the blessing of the traditional revel buns made by Margaret Overton — St Breward Brownies and Guides with a fun drawing activity involving all the congregation.

The recently formed St Breward Choral Speakers recited two poems, 'At Candlemas' and 'Seasons in North Cornwall', both by Charles Causley, together with the popular ballad about the American railroader Casey Jones.

The recently renamed Benefice Choir — formerly Cluster Choir — took part, with members drawn from the three parishes of St Breward, Blisland and Helland. Also involved were St Breward Handbell Ringers and St Breward Junior Band, supported by the main St Breward Silver Band, who played throughout the service. The collection was split between the band and church.

The service concluded with a full tea provided free by ladies of the church and served in the village hall.
