BETWEEN 1941 and 1945 the Arctic Convoys followed a route described by Winston Churchill as 'the worst journey in the world'.
Robert (Bob) Storey from South Petherwin was one of 42 naval veterans from Cornwall honoured by the Russian government and on Monday, November 10, at County Hall in Truro, he was presented with the Ushakov medal by the Russian Deputy Ambassador Alexander Kramarenko.
Mr Storey was conscripted into the Royal Navy and served aboard frigate HMS Tavy from December 1943 until July 1945 as Petty Officer in the engine room.
