BUDE Police have reported that on Thursday, June 25, they seized a vehicle from its owner. The reason for this action was that the driver of the
vehicle had previously been issued a warning regarding the manner of his driving.
Police would like to make drivers aware of these powers, and if they drive in a manner which constitutes a specified offence and is likely to cause alarm, distress or annoyance to members of the public (this includes music in the vehicle that is too loud or wheelspinning their tyres) that, under Section 59 of the 2002 Police Reform Act, they have the powers (under section 60 of that act) to seize the vehicle from them.
The spokesman added: "In some circumstances the police also have the authority to dispose of the vehicle. In every case the outcome will be a hefty bill for the vehicle's owner."
