On Saturday I was manning one of the stalls at the Annual May Fayre and first of all I would very much like to thank the organisers for such a wonderful day. I am sure it was the best ever and all those involved should be proud of their achievements.
However, I am quite sad to say that I was amazed how many people were not aware of the 70th Anniversary of the end of WW2 – we were handing out flyers and telling people that the Beacon would be lit at the Prospect at 9.00pm on Friday evening, with music down on the Bandstand. I was shocked when people of all age groups did not know what V.E. stood for (for those who still don't know – "VICTORY IN EUROPE") - I quite understand that with the 100th Anniversary of WW1 and with all the publicity last year this was probably overshadowed, but I am amongst many thousands of children who were left without a father and it changed the course of many peoples' lives forever. We just cannot let future generations forget the sacrifices made by everyone, both military and civilian. It is because of them that we live in this wonderful country today and all should honour this special time and remember them. They gave us a future which sadly millions of them did not have.
