Ralph Anderson and his sister Marian Endel from America had been researching their Cornish cousins for years and had been trying to make a connection with living cousins since their first trip to Cornwall five years ago. The week before their planned vacation this year Ralph wrote a letter to Garfield Paynter, a possible cousin he had been passed on to by a friend, Cyril Lucas of Callington. Ralph and Marian had met Cyril on their first trip to the county. Two days before they left for England, Ralph received a call from Garfield and Val Paynter of St Dominick and they agreed to meet. On the second day when Ralph and Marian were in Cornwall they accidentally ran into Arthur Tink. Ralph told Arthur that he was interested in the Paynters and Arthur said that his sister had married a Paynter. It turned out to be Val Paynter. Would this have happened if Ralph had not already established contact with Garfield and Val? Garfield's sister, Maureen May of Launceston, who had been researching her cousins wanted to meet her probable cousins from the US. When everybody got together they were so happy to be able to confirm that they were indeed cousins.
