AN upsurge in entries in the homecraft, art and handicraft sections made an impressive contribution to the St Giles on the Heath Horticultural Show on Saturday, 10 August 10.

It required several tables to display the striking array of paintings and drawings, mouth-watering cakes, breads, biscuits and preserves, and the hand-crafted articles.

"There was an impressive number of entries and all of a high good standard in these sections — higher than in previous years," said show secretary Riva Jones. "The judges had a difficult time selecting the winners.

"We're not sure what created the high level of interest, but It may be because we have quite a few new faces exhibiting for the first time," she said.
