THE very moving and appropriate service was led by St Breward vicar the Rev Canon Sherry Bryan, with the intercessions read by Methodist lay preacher Brian Parkman, and music performed by St Breward Silver Band.
The St Breward Guides and Brownies processed the standards through the church to the altar, and then undertook their traditional collecting of the poppies from the congregation and attaching them to a wooden cross in the aisle.
During the service the recently formed village poetry reading group, the St Breward Choral Speakers led by Christine Woolf, gave their first public performance reciting 4 short WW1 pieces, including poems 'In Flanders Fields' by John Macrae and 'Bombardment' by Richard Aldington, as well as the words from Psalm 23.
A poignant video using original film clips from the 1st World War was shown to a captivated audience showing various scenes of the horror of war, leading to the creation of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Westminster Abbey.
