BUDE 5
WOOTTON BASSETT 2
(West Clubs' Women's
Premier Two)
ALTHOUGH not playing at their best, Bude collected another valuable three points on Saturday.
Having the first push back Bude immediately put pressure on their Wiltshire visitors.
However, that initial burst of pressure could not be maintained as Bude did not seem to be passing the ball as quickly and accurately as they can and, quite often, lost possession.
Bude, though, opened the scoring first with a goal from Briony Varcoe. Wootton Bassett responded with a slightly scrappy goal, the ball trickling over the line.
Regaining composure, Tammy Snowsill ensured that Bude took the lead once more and Briony added to their tally with a short corner goal just before half-time.
After a stern talking to from coach Dawn Messenger-Pates, Bude upped their game in the second period, although only after Wootton Bassett had made it 3-2.
Di Old made some great runs down the middle, feeding the ball out to Caroline Hobbs and Naomi Hatcher on the wings with Robyn Pengilly also in the middle to support. Some good long balls were played through, on to which Perdi Sobey, Snowsill and Varcoe could run, and Hatcher soon increased Bude's lead.
With keeper Jo Timmins directing things from the back, Bude's defence of Miranda Pomeroy, Pam Johns, Sharon Rundle and Kirsty Heslop put in some great tackles to deny the visitors any more chances.
Bude had a few more near misses before Snowsill made sure the ball found the back board to take the score to 5-2.
Bude: Jo Timmins, Pam Johns, Miranda Pomeroy, Sharon Rundle, Robyn Pengilly, Di Old, Naomi Hatcher, Caroline Hobbs, Tammy Snowsill, Perdi Sobey and Briony Varcoe.
