AFTER another challenging training session, Holsworthy Moorland Training Group once again participated in the Ten Tors challenge this year.

Arriving at Okehampton camp on Friday the two teams, tackling the 35-mile and 45-mile routes, carried out their final preparations and carefully planned their routes, ready for the start at 7am on Saturday.

After a rousing ‘good luck’ speech by team manager Geoff Day, the teams set off in good spirits and headed to their first Tor and check point.

The 35-mile team of Louise Shepherd, Pip Horn, Tom Lavender, Liam Slade, Theo Carey and Ben Hampton walked well in ideal conditions throughout the first day hitting all their targets and finishing their day at the planned camp location.

With two of the team members needing to be at Torrington to play football in a cup final match, an early finish was the order of the second day. Fortunately everything went well and the challenge was competed at 11.20am. A spokesperson said it was a ‘brilliant effort by the whole team’.

The 45-mile team of Mirran Weir, Beth Gibb, Josh Masters, Ben Ainsley, Hamish Ayre and Liam Williams also walked well on the Saturday making camp as planned in good time.

After a good night’s sleep they were ready to tackle the Sunday walk and, although suffering a few blisters along the way, made very good time arriving back at Okehampton at 3.10pm.

With both teams home safe and sound, if a little sore, it was an early finish for the leaders and supporters who had come to cheer them all on.

The spokesperson added that it was ‘a great finish to an excellent weekend for all involved’.

Mr Day congratulated all the participants for their hard work over the training period and for once again making it a complete pleasure to work with them. He also expressed thanks to all the leaders and helpers who had assisted throughout the training period and for once again making it a complete pleasure to work with them adding that he looked forward to another successful year in 2019.
