LAUNCESTON Club of Visually Impaired group has received two cheques.
They were presented at the Winds of Change pub in South Petherwin with a cheque for £250 from the Sir Alfred Robbins Lodge of Mark Master Masons and a further £100 from the Cornwall Mark Foundation by Free-Masons’, John Cory of Launceston and Richard White of Bude.
In between the presentation, the club enjoyed a lovely lunch before doing their fortnightly auction and raffle to round off the afternoon.
The club, which has a membership of over 30. meet on the first and third Tuesday of the month. They are always seeking new members as they have to find money to help with the transportation of individuals to and from their homes along with general running costs.
Angela Holman, chief organiser said: “As a club we always are looking at ways of generating more money and generating publicity.
“Although we only meet twice a month, we have to pay drivers money to get people from their homes to the location we are at as we have members from places such as Treburley and Egloskerry which are a few miles out of Launceston.
“Thankfully we do receive some money per year from I-sight Cornwall (a charity for the visually impaired in the county) and that helps immeasurably, but, we still have to keep within our means.”
In recent years, I-sight Cornwall has been rebranded, having previously been called the Cornwall Blind Association, a name Holman was glad that was changed.
“The previous name was awful as it made out that everyone who was involved couldn’t see anything, nearly all of our members can see at least something so that was slightly infuriating.”
Despite this the club is in good hands with a strong membership and plans to push forward which are made possible by generous donations.
