SHEBBEAR College, the oldest school in North Devon, is celebrating its 175th birthday by opening two new buildings.
A new pavilion, which houses the new sixth form centre and a state-of-the-art music block, featuring a Steinway piano and recording studio, has been included in the project.
The pavilion was finished in time for the new cricket season, and the XI cricket team played their first match against Hampshire Collegiate in front of the imposing new building last week.
The match was supported by sixth formers who are preparing for their upcoming A Level exams.
The celebrations will continue on June 25, when the college will hold a special grand Midsummer Ball. During this event, a champagne reception will be held in the new pavilion, followed by a gourmet dinner and a performance from the live band ‘Joey the Lips’.
The event will be hosted by the Friends of Shebbear College, and the Old Shebbearians’ Association.
