TWO Launceston women have pledged to shave their heads for Macmillan Cancer Support if enough people donate to the charity.

Macmillan is encouraging people to 'Brave the Shave' this August to help fund their work with cancer patients and show solidarity with those who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy.

Jade Farrington, Cornwall Councillor for Launceston South, and artist Rebecca Harris decided to join the challenge to support people undergoing cancer treatment because of the impact the disease has had on both their lives.

Jade, 29, saw the fundraising idea and chose August 17 to take part because it will mark 20 years since she had her left femur replaced by a metal prosthesis due to childhood bone cancer.

She and her family and friends raised several thousand pounds for the hospitals where she underwent chemotherapy and operations back in the 1990s, and Jade thought this would be a good way to try to add to that total.
