MORE than £500 was raised by Port Isaac Rowing Club at its annual gig push.
Twenty-two of the club’s intrepid rowers pushed their gig, Roscarrock, from Port Isaac to Pendoggett and back on Sunday, December 27.
The money raised will be split between the club’s funds and its designated charities for 2016 — Cornwall Wildlife Trust and St Petroc’s Society.
The club also presented a cheque for £600 to CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young), its chosen charity this year, in memory of much loved Port Isaac rower Dave Wood.
The club expressed thanks to all its supporters who have helped throughout the year, including Sharps Brewery, Fishermen’s Friends, Great Western Railways, Outlaws Port Isaac, Fishlock Wines and Port Gaverne Hotel, which generously provided refreshments after the gig push.
The community-based rowing club, with three traditional Cornish pilot gigs — Corsair, Unity and Roscarrock — is celebrating its 25th year.
The club, formed in 1991, has competed every year in the Isles of Scillies World Championships. More recently it has rowed in the Great London River Race, often sending three gigs.
Every year the club raises funds for charity. In the last few years, this has totalled around £6,500.
