AFTER 30 years of serving Launceston in the Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service, Roger Willis was given an official send-off for his retirement last week.
Over the years, Roger has attended some of the biggest events in the area's history and saved countless lives.
One such example of this was during the severe floods of June, 1993. Following a call-out to Ham Mill, Werrington, an elderly couple, Mr and Mrs Duckett were found clinging to the side of a car in eight ft water.
Roger, leading fireman at the time, swam 150ft to rescue the couple.
As a result of his actions, he was presented with the Chief Officer's Commendation for Bravery.
