TWO amateur dramatic groups from the Post area will be competing against each other in the finals of the RBG Community fund finals.
RGB Building Supplies’ Well Built Community Fund will present the winner of the final round of voting with £1,000 worth of building materials.
In the final round of voting Holsworthy Amateur Theatrical Society (HATS) and Coads Green Amateur Players will be up against each other, as well as the third finalists the Crediton Operatic & Dramatic Society.
HATS is hoping to beat the competition to enable them to undertake much needed repairs to their wooden stage.
The group took over the Holsworthy Theatre in 1972. Since then they have made many improvements — but they still have much work they want to do.
The society hold three shows each year, but the theatre is also regulary used by other local groups such as the Rotary club, schools, choirs, travelling companies and more.
The theatre’s wooden stage has been skimmed several times, but some areas now need replacing.
If the group is chosen as the Community Fund winner they have said they will use the money to make the stage repairs to ensure the theatre can be used for many years to come.
However, if the HATS group wants to win the £1,000 worth of building materials they are going to have to receive more votes then other finalist Coads Green Amateur Players.
The group was formed in the 1960s and those now involved range in age from five through to 75.
They produce a pantomime every year with the proceeds being split between providing a respite holiday for people with muscular dystrophy through the Tavistock Muscular Dystrophy Group and a local charity.
This means that the group has very little money to help create scenery each year. They have said if they are chosen as the community fund winner they would like to purchase the materials needed to help with this year’s pantomime.
Les Ellender, branch manager at RGB Holsworthy, and Tony Jackman, branch manager at RGB Launceston, said: “Giving the public the opportunity to choose the recipient of our Well Built Community Fund is something new for us and we would like to encourage people in the local area to get involved and support the finalists.”
The winner of the RGB Building Supplies’ Well Built Community Fund’s prize of £1,000 worth of building materials will be the group that receives the largest number of votes.
Voting will take place between Monday, September 12, and midnight on Sunday, September 25. Votes cast outside of these dates will not be counted.
Votes can be cast for Coads Green Amateur Players by visiting the Launceston RGB branch and placing a voting chip in the relevant box.
To vote for Holsworthy Amateur Theatrical Society (HATS) visit the Holsworthy branch of RGB during normal opening hours.
People can also vote by visiting RGB’s Facebook page or by emailing [email protected] and putting the name of the group in the subject line.
Only one email vote per email address will be counted.
