TRIBUTES have been paid to Don Cuff from Delabole who died last week following a collision.

Mr Cuff, aged 63, was involved in a collision on the A39 at St Kew Highway just after 4.40pm on Thursday, March 16.

Emergency services attended the incident, which involved a black Honda XL 1000V motorbike and a red Nissan X-Trail car.

Mr Cuff, the motorcyclist, died at the scene as a result of the collision.

The driver of the Nissan, a man in his 60s, was taken to Treliske Hospital, Truro, where he was treated for minor injuries.

Mr Cuff (pictured below) was a retained firefighter at Delabole for around 20 years. He became crew manager and retired from the service last year.

He lived in the village with his wife, Sue, and they have two grown up sons.

A statement from Delabole Fire Service said: “It is with great sadness to say that yesterday CM Don Cuff passed away. Deepest sympathy to family of our friend and colleague on this sad day.”

Other brigades in the area, including Wadebridge and Bodmin also took to Twitter to pay tribute, with Bodmin calling Mr Cuff ‘the lovliest man you could ever wish to meet’.

Delabole station manager, Mark Saltern, who worked with Mr Cuff for over 20 years, but knew him for much longer, said: “He didn’t have a bad bone in his body. He helped so many people in the village. An amazing chap.”

On Tuesday evening, past and present firefighters were invited to the weekly drill at the station to reflect on times spent with Don.

Police from the Roads Policing Team are appealing for witnesses to the incident to contact them via [email protected] or telephone 101, quoting reference number 0523 of 16/03/17.
