I wanted very simply to pay a short tribute to my colleague and friend, Des Shadrick, who passed away after a long battle with cancer.
Throughout the time I have known Des, he has been a man of utmost integrity, courage and humanity. I cannot think of a better man to have represented the people of Holsworthy. He was passionate, and compassionate. He was a man of the highest principles who believed, and demonstrated, that people can make real changes in their communities for the better. I hope his life provides inspiration to many others, as it has done to mine.
Des had an immense reputation in the rural communities of Devon. He never stopped trying to drive the area forward, even when he was unwell. He was a farmer, and a thinker. His passing is a great loss to all.
Torridge councillor for Bradworthy and Hartland.
