COUNCILLOR Julia Bryson, a member of Bude-Stratton Town Council since May 2007, was suspended for a period of three months by the Standards Committee of Cornwall in August 2011 following a lengthy investigation.

She was found to have breached several clauses of the Local Government Code of Conduct, namely paragraphs 3(1) — failure to treat others (and particularly the town clerk) with respect; 6(a) — attempting to use her position as a member to improperly confer an advantage on herself or others by purporting to be representing Bude-Stratton Town Council at a planning enquiry; 13(2) — failure to declare in her register of interests that she was a member of the Friends of Binhamy; and 5 — brought her office into disrepute having regard to the number and nature of the breaches committed.

Cllr Bryson appealed against the standards committee findings and decision to the First Tier Tribunal Service. The appeal was conducted at Bodmin Magistrates Court on January 24.
