A TOTAL of £2,700 was raised from a charity motorcycle trials school, held in the summer at Lower Wembsworthy Farm, Hartland. A cheque night was held at the organisers' house recently.

The event was organised by Brenda and John Luckett in aid of the charity CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young). More than 70 people from across the UK took part in a weekend of activities.

The couple lost their 19-year-old son Martyn suddenly to an undiagnosed heart condition, called myocarditis.

The family raises money for his memorial fund, which pays for them, in conjunction with CRY, to hold annual heart screenings for young people in the Bude, Bideford and Barnstaple areas.

Every week in the UK, it is estimated that at least 12 young people die of undiagnosed heart conditions. Since its formation in 1995, CRY has been working to reduce the frequency of Young Sudden Cardiac Death (YSCD).
