KIVELLS report a tremendous day at Holsworthy recently, which saw 251 cattle, 1,138 sheep, 154 baby calves, 69 dairy and 48 bales of straw.
Top call in the cattle pens was awarded to Mr Bolt, of Peters Marland, reaching £1543 for his best 29-month Limousin with another at £1,519. Norman Stacey, of Clawton, saw his 27mo Blue steer hit £1,401 with the best finished heifers at £1,353.
Premium on the day was set at 218 p/pkg given by Rodney Philips, (butchers) of Bristol.
A strong entry of 221 store cattle met a fantastic trade with Peter and Dolcy Gay, of Ashwater, topping the day at £1,390 for 27mo steers with Paul Saunders, of Halwill, at £1,360 and Mike Kirby, of Milton Dameral ,at £1,280 for his 19mo old Blues.
Messrs Gay saw their consignment of 27 steers and heifers average £1,102. Best store heifers came in from Messrs Warren, of Virginstowe, at £1,180 with plenty between £1,000 and £1,555. The top ten cattle on the day's auction stood at an outstanding average of £1,333.
A short entry of cull cows saw the best at £902 for Limousin cows from Messrs Giddy, of Downderry, with plenty between £820 and £850 and premium set at 112 p/pkg.
A super entry of 137 baby calves saw Mike Hopper, of Whitstone, top the day at £412 for a 29-day-old Blue bull calf with Jeremy Ovens, of Halwill, at £400.
Best heifers came in from A J and J J Tucker, of Langtree, at £315 with Peter Lake, of Weare Gifford, topping the stirks at £675.
