BACK for the third year running, the Trelawny Shout — a mass 9pm St Piran’s Day pub singalong of the Cornish anthem — was so well supported this year that it is set to become a firm fixture in Cornwall’s events calendar.
The Shout is organised by the Cornwall Community Foundation and generously supported by St Austell Brewery.
The Bell Inn in Launceston, the Countryman Inn at Langdon Cross and the Golden Lion in Port Isaac were among the nearly 60 pubs on board and hundreds of Cornwall’s best-loved voices from male voice choirs, shanty groups and community choirs lead the tune. Rev Robert Stephen Hawker’s iconic song was sung across Cornwall raising awareness of the rich heritage of the county.
The Cornish Young Farmers kick started the evening on Lemon Quay in Truro at 7pm fresh from enjoying their South West Entertainments final at the Hall for Cornwall. All those who raised their voices for the Shout at the Countryman Inn were rewarded with the legendary Stargazy Pie.
The Trelawny Shout Facebook page and Twitter account were also buzzing with videos being posted from pubs, choirs and individuals.
The total funds raised for the Cornwall Community Foundation will be announced later this month.
