A WOMAN has trekked 100 miles around Cornwall to raise awareness of the condition Endometriosis, which she has suffered with for many years.
Thirty five-year-old Katie Hall, from Cornworthy in Devon, set off on the walk on Wednesday, August 2.
So far she has raised over £700 for the charity Endometriosis UK, smashing her initial target of £250.
Supported by a small team of family and friends, Katie started in Padstow on Wednesday, following the Smugglers Way and the Saints Way through Port Isaac, Tintagel, Jamaica Inn, St Neots, Looe, Fowey and Lanivet before arriving back in Padstow on Sunday.
Katie took on this challenge soon after having her third operation to help ease her symptoms. Endometriosis is a chronic and debilitating condition affecting one in ten women and it is very difficult to diagnose and treat. Katie suffered with it for a number of years before her diagnosis in 2012.
Speaking about the condition, Katie said: “It is important that young women and girls are made aware of the disease. So many women suffer in silence, month after month, thinking that crippling pain and other features of endometriosis are normal symptoms of ‘that time of the month’.
“If more women are aware of Endometriosis and recognise the symptoms then maybe they will go to their GP sooner and get information and treatment so the monthly agony can be avoided or at least managed.”
