THE Christmas tree festival and market took place at Davidstow Church on Saturday, writes Helen Pusey.

There was a magnificent church Christmas tree along with other tree displays celebrating the lives of loved ones past and present as well as acknowledging all events throughout the year. A poppy tree honouring those fallen could be found in one of the windows with knitted and felt poppies.

Parochial church council member Hazel Sanders said: “The Christmas trees this year look fantastic and the parochial church council would like to thank everyone that helped, including those members of the public that turned out, despite the weather. The place has been buzzing.

“The church will remain unlocked for the public to look at the trees until the end of December.”

It was not only an opportunity to see the trees but a time to do Christmas shopping. Stalls included handicrafts for the tree, as well as bags, home-made penguins, angels, reindeers and place mats.

The tombola proved popular and morning coffee was served with mince-pies and cream.

The market would not have been complete without the chance to buy a souvenir Cornish passport created by PCC member Bill Pearce. It celebrates Cornwall being granted national minority status on April 24 2014.

More than £500 was raised from this event and will go to Davidstow Church restoration fund.
