AS PART of the ongoing maintenance programme for the conservation area at Polyphant, Lewannick Parish Council has created some tree houses due to ongoing problems with chestnut trees.
Lewannick Parish Council said: “We have had to remove two chestnuts, one with root rot, one with a suppressed crown and a sycamore which had root rot.
“We have made the wood from these trees into tree houses. The houses will be of great benefit to the habitat and will support a higher number of species, including insects, birds, bats and fungi.
“We have also been awarded a grant from The Woodland Trust and will be planting saplings that have an affinity to our green. The samplings will benefit the natural environment and help to create a greater biodiversity.
“The treehouses will remain on the green over the winter and spring period. When the wood has seasoned it will be available to residents within our parish. In the meantime, it is important that the wood from the tree houses remains in situ.”
