THE Tremail Methodist Church held a car treasure hunt and cream tea on July 31, beginning at 2pm following the service in the village, writes Helen Pusey.
Lorna Heard said: “We held this event last year and as it was so successful we decided to hold it again.”
The car treasure hunters were staggered and headed out around the secret location of St Clether with the first leaving at a brisk 1.45pm.
Clair Cornelius said: “The first competitor got a bit lost but then it got off to a proper start with eight in total taking part.”
Competitors were awarded extra points for mileage and bringing back all five requirements, which included a piece of honeysuckle, the biggest piece of fern, a head of corn, tweezers and a five pence piece — 55 questions had to be answered correctly too.
The last car to leave was at 3.30pm but all were back by 5.30pm.The second car was back first but the last car won the competition.
Clue-seeking treasure hunters were welcomed back to Treven Farm where it had all began for a cream tea.
There was a cake stall selling homemade saffron buns, yeast buns, lemon drizzle and chocolate cake, as well as Cornish fairings, boiled fruit cake, shortbread biscuits and popular melting moment’s biscuits. All were very tempting.
People were encouraged to ‘guess the weight of the cake’, which was beautifully created by Sue Dawson who is a professional sugar crafting and cake decorator.
Others guessed how many sweets or marbles were in the jar. Another challenge after the cream tea was to see if you could balance a 20p on a bobbing lemon, if you could you kept your money.
All enjoyed a catch up in the garden inside the marquee or gazebos where it was cooler out of the warm sun.
Mrs Cornelius added: “Everyone especially enjoyed the cream tea afterwards in the garden and the weather was very kind to us.”
Approximately £350 was raised. All proceeds will go to the chapel funds.
