TRAFFIC flow is to be improved at a recycling centre in Torridge next month.

Work at Devon County Council's Anvil Corner Recycling Centre, near Holsworthy, will start on Tuesday, June 1 and will create a new one way

traffic system as well as upgrading the drainage of the site.

The traffic improvement scheme, which will take around eight weeks to complete, will prevent the need for cars to turn around on site, which has historically led to congestion, delays and inconvenience for site users.

The site will initially remain open to the public while the works are undertaken, but delays may be experienced. Standard opening times will apply, 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 6pm Saturday and Sunday, but due to space restrictions, plasterboard, engine oil and vegetable oil will not be accepted at the site.

Facilities for bottles and paper recycling will also be temporarily removed during the works.

The site will then be closed to the public from Wednesday, June 23 to Tuesday, July 6 inclusive to allow for extensive drainage works to be

carried out across the site. It will re-open to the

public after this date, but engineering works will continue.

Roger Croad, Devon County Councillor for

Environment and Regulatory Services, said: "Unfortunately this work may cause some inconvenience and delays, but it will provide long term gains once the scheme is complete. It will make a huge difference for people who use the centre and will improve access and the flow of traffic around the site."

Cllr Barry Parsons, Devon County Councillor for Holsworthy Rural, said: "I am delighted to see the problem of traffic congestion at the site

tackled in a full and comprehensive manner. Whilst changes will, initially, be uncomfortable the long-term benefits will be significant. I am confident that users of the centre will be delighted with the

results."
