CAMELFORD Town Council is looking at contractors to complete works on the pond in Enfield Park.
In her report, town clerk, Esther Greig, told councillors at the full council meeting last Thursday evening that she would prefer for a contractor to take on the work, as opposed to the suggestion of volunteers.
The pond, situated at the back of Enfield Park, is clogged with weeds, and the town council are hoping to carry out work on the pond to maintain it for everyone’s benefit.
She said: “Regarding the pond, there was the suggestion of volunteers taking on the work, but that absolutely fills me with dread. I don’t want to take on the health and safety aspect on my head to get people on there and working on it.”
Instead, Ms Greig suggested hiring a contractor for the work, adding: “Once the work is done, perhaps we could get volunteers in to keep on top of it.
“I think we can all agree that we just want to get on with it. It all depends on when the contractor can do it, with the rush and the critters in there.”
Cllr Peter Guesford said: “I think we should get contractors in based on the health and safety aspect of it. Purely from a safety point of view, we need to get it cleaned first off, and we can watch it and see how it goes.”
Ms Greig told councillors that Amanda Musgrave and John prefer Quote 1, which is from Aquatics South West, who have now been contracted to undertake annual maintenance on the pond. Aquatics South West have been instructed to conduct the works starting in the early autumn, in the week starting September 15.
People interested in helping with the annual maintenance, which will take place in October 2018, should contact Cllr Guesford.
