BUSINESS owners in Camelford are reminding shoppers in the town that their premises remain open for trade — despite the partial closure of Fore Street.

The road from Clease Road junction to College Road junction is expected to be shut until February 27.

Residents and customers also had to endure no through access in this part of town for eight weeks in December of last year, as essential sewer repair works took place.

This time the road is being resurfaced, and whilst some have expressed their bemusement at this not being done alongside the sewer works, Cornwall Council hope disruptions are kept to a minimum with a day time only closure.

However, whilst the works were supposed to have started on January 23, Bonnie Grills of the Camelford Chamber of Commerce and Stephens Home Hardware said this was not the case.

"The men here are working well, but the consultation from Cornwall Council to the chamber has been non-existent. Consultation from Cornwall Council with town traders would have been of great help — as it is, we were left in the dark.

"We're still here, open for business, so please come in. The shelves are full and we're here and trading from 8.30am until 5pm, and we don't close over lunchtime either."
