STAFF at the Tourist Information Centre in Bude were presented with a bronze award on behalf of the town for Best UK Coastal Resort in the British Travel Awards.

The town was voted for by the public ahead of areas such as Newquay, St Ives, Whitby, Brighton, Weymouth and Blackpool.

The gold award in the coastal resort category went to Bournemouth and the silver award to Tenby.

Head of Visit Cornwall Malcolm Bell, who had received the award on the town's behalf at The British Travel Awards ceremony held at London's Battersea Evolution and hosted by stand-up, writer and performer Russell Kane.

Mr Bell came to Bude to present the award to TIC staff members.

Bude was in good company at the awards as Cornwall scooped the gold award for Best UK Holiday region. It is the sixth consecutive year Cornwall has won the award — Devon took bronze.
