TOWN projects are progressing well, and library staff have been ‘cuddling authors’, a meeting of Camelford Town Council heard recently.

Esther Greig, town clerk, told the meeting of Camelford Town Council on the evening of Tuesday, October 15 about the town’s ongoing projects and events which have been taking place locally.

She said: “We have had the completion of the fish passage works, and the Westcountry Rivers Trust are very pleased with it.

“The OCM container unit that we ordered back in February will hopefully be delivered towards the end of the month, beginning of November for the youth shelter. The phase 2 of the Enfield Park play area is scheduled to start the week beginning the 18th November, or the week before if they can possibly do it. The extra soil that is going to be used is going to be put in the zip wire area, because the zip wire area has gone right down, so rather than taking it away we’re going to use it to pad it up a bit.”

Ms Greig went on to explain that she had received an update from Inspector Morris regarding police cover for Camelford. She said: “They have not managed to recruit a PC locally to replace Mike Ives, so it’s now being advertised nationally.”

On the up side, Camelford Town Council were pleased to attend the recent North Cornwall Book Festival in St Endellion, with Ms Greig, deputy clerk Amanda Lash and Camelford Librarian Bronwen Hockerday enjoying the weekend.

“We had a stall at the North Cornwall Book Festival for two days. On Friday and Saturday we managed to talk to a load of kids to encourage them to use Borrow Box because we don’t get anything other than primary kids or adults in here — we’re missing teenagers, so that was quite good for those who didn’t know about it and said they were going to go and check it out.

“On Saturday, Bronwen and Amanda were over there, so there’s pictures that have gone out on Facebook of those two cuddling authors. So again, it was about talking to people about what’s available at the library and pushing the things that we do here, so that was good.”
