A TOWN council is to look into installing more car parking signs after comments were made saying there are not enough.

Holsworthy Town Councillor Lyndon Piper told councillors at last week’s meeting he had received a complaint about the lack of car parking signs.

He said: “I was stopped in the street by a local resident, complaining there aren’t enough signs for car parking in the town as you drive in from all directions.”

Cllr Piper said he had been informed a group of visitors to the town were put off staying because they were unable to find somewhere to park.

“The story goes, a group of four cars came into town and were going to stop in town and have something to eat, but they didn’t stop because they could not find any car parks so they drove off.”

Cllr Pat Smith said she had heard a similar story.

Cllr Jon Hutchings said he and former councillor Martin Prentice previously looked into improving signs.

He said: “About three or four years’ ago myself and Martin Prentice looked at all the signs in Holsworthy because there was money set aside from Ruby Country and at the time we came up with plans for new direction signs and everything, but as far as I know it all got chucked out the window.”

Town clerk Vanessa Saunders said the town square ‘could do’ with some signs identifiying car parking and she would look into it.
