CORNWALL Council has expressed its ‘delight’ that Camelford town councillors have voted to move ahead with the potential takeover of the town library.

The Post recently reported the town council agreed to take on the running of the town’s library.

Town mayor Cllr Rob Rotchell told the Post town councillors voted in agreement to ‘the general power of competence’, adding: “Agreeing the general power of competence formally allows the council to proceed, but there is still a bit of work to be done. It’s a big task but we are optimistic.”

A spokesperson for Cornwall Council said: “Camelford Town Council have been very proactive in engaging with their local community on the future delivery of the library/information service in their town.

“We are delighted that members have made a decision to progress with the devolution of this valuable service, and look forward to working with them to hold more detailed discussions in the new year on how to shape these services to meet the needs of the local community.”
