LAUNCESTON Town Hall has joined the Pub Watch scheme, following a suggestion by the town’s police neighbourhood beat manager.

The membership means anyone banned from licensed premises in Launceston is banned from the town hall whenever alcohol is sold as part of an event.

The Post reported in September that PC Steve Stoppard had attended a meeting of the town council to make the suggestion. He said at the time he works closely with the town’s Pub Watch, which he believes is ‘one of the safest in Cornwall’.

Town clerk Rita Skinner volunteered at the meeting to go to the next meeting of Pub Watch to find out how the scheme works.

Ms Skinner, along with the town council’s properties manager David James, attended their first meeting of the organisation last month.

Ms Skinner told the Post: “Every licensed premises in Launceston was represented, along with the police and a licensing officer from Cornwall Council.

“I was very impressed with the way everyone worked together, sharing information and reaching consensus on how to react to situations in a friendly and constructive manner.

“The town council was pleased to be asked to join the group and we will do everything we can to support its work, and the work of the police, in keeping our town safe.

“Our membership means that anyone banned from licensed premises in Launceston is banned from the town hall whenever alcohol is sold as part of an event.”
