HOLSWORTHY Town Council has taken over the managing of the Wednesday weekly pannier market in the town square from the market manager Paul Traxton.

Mr Traxton was given a tanker by the mayor of Holsworthy Jon Hutchings and town clerk and responsible financial officer Vanessa Saunders to acknowledge and thank him for the work and dedication he had put in over the years as market manager.

Mr Traxton will no longer work as market manager but will continue to run his own stall at the market.

Mrs Saunders said: “The market means a lot to the community and Holsworthy Town Council alike.

“Despite most people’s shopping habits have changed and more and more shopping is done on the internet, we would still like to keep our market and make it work.

“We have new stall holders which is always good to see and several people have enquired and are interested in having a market stall in the summer.”

During the first market held by the town council there were eight stalls open. The council hope that as the weather improves throughout the year more people will join.

If anyone is interested in setting up a stall on the weekly pannier market they can contact the town council on 01409 253312 or email [email protected]
