OVER the coming weeks in Launceston’s florists, there will be tulips for sale, grown on allotments in Launceston that have been kindly donated by the town council.

A huge team effort has been made to make this possible, between Lions, florists, Launceston Town Council and Launceston Print.

Flowerscene, Flowers by Donna and Launceston Florist have agreed to sell the tulips in their shops to support Cornwall Cancer Care, selling bunches at £3, with eight tulips in each bunch.

Lion, Richard Ilsley, has led this project and has planted 1,200 tulip bulbs. The tulips will be hand picked and packaged by fellow Lions from the Launceston club, and distributed to the shops from there.

All profits from this project will be given to Cornwall Cancer Care. The idea came from when Richard visited France and saw French Lions running this project on a huge scale.

Launceston Lions have dipped their toe in this year with 1,200 bulbs, but plan to take this forward next year if successful to plant 5,000 bulbs.

People are encouraged to look out for promotion posters, and to support Cornwall Cancer Care through this project. Lions will also be selling the tulips around and about — look out for them, they will be ready soon. All support will make a difference.
