Bude Town Council is often approached by members of the public asking why it does not clean up the triangle of land opposite the Somerfield supermarket.
People mistakenly think that the town council own this land, probably because of its proximity to the Downs. This triangle of land opposite 'Morwenna Terrace' is actually owned by four private individuals who at some stage lived in houses there.
The town council has tried to purchase the land with a view to maintaining it and making it into public open land. Every legal avenue has been pursued but the conclusion is that it is not possible to go ahead. Town councillors hope that the current owners will find a way to clear up and maintain the land as it is in a prominent position in the town centre.
Deputy Town Clerk,
