CAMELFORD Town Council has approved a grant request of £500 for Cruse Bereavement Care Cornwall.

Councillors discussed the request at their meeting on January 16.

Cllr Andy Shaw said the grant was for admin costs, adding: “We, as a council, have a policy, we only support capital costs.”

Clerk to the council, Esther Greig, said the charity has volunteers that go and see clients, and there are mileage costs in that.

Cllr Shaw said it was still administration costs and noted the council has previously left such a request ‘on the table’.

However, Cllr Peter Guesford said: “I think it’s a worthwhile cause.”

Cruse Bereavement Care Cornwall provides skilled support to anyone who has been bereaved, whatever the circumstances of the bereavement.

In the grant request form, it states that the £500 would pay for the charity to provide six sessions of support for one person at home, including training costs and travel, at £100 a time.

This particular £500 would support five people at home in the Camelford area.

Cllr Claire Hewlett said: “It’s a valuable service at a time when people are very vulnerable and would need some support.”

A proposal to approve the grant request was proposed by Cllr Guesford, Cllr Hewlett seconded and six councillors voted in favour and three against.
