CORNWALL Council’s residents’ parking zones proposals could still go ahead in Bude.
The Post has previously reported that in November, the council launched a public engagement exercise on proposals for residents’ parking schemes in seven towns — including Bude, and on street pay and display zones in four town centres — Falmouth and Penryn, Newquay, Penzance and Truro.
The council has said as a result of feedback, it is not progressing with on-street pay and display parking in any of the towns at this time.
On residents’ parking schemes, the council said it will meet with local representatives to discuss the results and options. Amended proposals will then be submitted for the council’s cabinet to consider later this year.
The local authority said the purpose of residents’ parking schemes is ‘to give residents a chance of finding a more convenient parking space near their home, and to reduce the number of cars driving around their area’.
A residents’ parking scheme would offer residents, who live within a zone area, the opportunity to buy a parking permit.
A spokesperson for the council said: “If any of the proposals are approved by the council we will formally consult on them before any new schemes are introduced on a phased basis.
“We identified seven areas in Cornwall as having the biggest parking problems: Bude, Falmouth and Penryn, Newquay, Penzance, St Ives, Truro and Wadebridge.
During early 2016 we carried out a town parking review in those towns and asked people for their opinions on parking issues they experience — either as a resident, business owner/manager or worker/visitor/shopper.
“Based on what people told us, we developed a series of proposals for parking solutions in each of the towns that includes new residents’ parking zones and new on-street pay and display parking.
“We carried out a consultation on our proposals asking people for their views and received over 8,000 responses for the residents’ parking zones survey and over 1,600 responses for the on-street pay and display parking survey.
“As a result of the survey feedback we are not progressing with on-street pay and display parking in any of the towns at this time.”
