WORKS to the public sewerage network in the centre of Launceston is to start in the New Year.

The South West Water improvement works at Windmill Hill and Westgate Street will require the road outside the Westgate Inn to be closed with other road restrictions.

The restrictions include making Windmill Hill a one-way system, a no right turn from Bounsalls Lane onto Windmill Hill and a no right turn from the Southgate Street exit under the archway.

South West Water in a letter to residents said diversion routes will be clearly signed, deliveries to properties will be maintained and site staff will assist if delivery vehicles cannot reach their normal drop-off points while the work is being carried out.

Work is due to start on January 19 and will take approximately five weeks to complete.
