AS PART of the national ‘Open Farm Sunday’ event, organised by Linking Environment And Farming (LEAF), Blackberry Farm opened its gates to the public on June 9.
Blackberry Farm, in Milton Dameral, is a working beef and sheep farm.
During the day there were opportunities to go on a farm tour, visit the petting area and even meet TV’s ‘Peppa Pig’.
The talented Jonathan Marshall, from Bude, attended this year’s event, providing a creative show with his highly trained horse and falcon.
Eagled eyed visitors may have recognised Jonathan’s horses and birds of prey who are famed for having worked on screen in some big name productions including Game of Thrones, Ben Hur, Snow White and the Huntsman and Planet Earth.
There was also an interesting display by the farm’s farrier Mark Skippon, who appeared on the BBC Two series ‘Love in the Countryside’, who hot shoed the farm’s Friesian horse and Gypsy Cob in front of a live audience.
And ensuring everyone’s interest was peaked there was also a display of vintage and modern farm machinery, a small fun fair provided by Phil Vanstone, face painting, bouncy castle, stalls including items from local producers, and games such as the ever popular ‘hobby horse jumping’.
Food and drink were available throughout the day at the farm’s shop and café ‘Lizzy’s Larder’.
