THE staff at Launceston tourist information centre will be attending the Cornwall Tourism Awards in Newquay tomorrow — in the hope of winning the ‘tourism information service of the year’ award.
The Launceston TIC has had a busy year with a greater number of visitors to the town keen to discover its history, visit the various attractions and take time browsing its independent shops and businesses.
The feedback from visitors has been positive, with most intending to return.
The centre has been in partnership with many local organisations this year to promote events, sell event tickets and put on regular events itself — including the monthly Launceston market in the square.
The market, now in its second year, is held on the second Saturday of each month. The next market will be on Saturday, November 14 with the following market being the last of the year on December 12 — with rumours that Santa will be attending the last market.
Towards the end of November the tourist information centre’s staff will be teaming up with neighbour businesses in the White Hart Arcade to raise funds for Breast Cancer Care. On Friday, November 27, an exercise bike will be peddled throughout the day, with a raffle and cake stall available to donate to.
