Mark Gribble, a very capable young wicket-keeper, has been selected to represent Cornwall U-13s on tour in South Africa next February. Mark, who plays for Werrington in the Jolly's Drinks Cornwall Cricket League alongside his father Ian, has represented Cornwall for the past three years. Mark needs to raise £1,400 as his contribution towards the tour and on Sunday August 23 a fun cricket competition took place between sons and fathers to help raise funds. On the main pitch, a team of young guns led by Mark, faced a team of experienced fathers who were determined not to be undone by their siblings. Likewise a second match took place on another pitch between younger siblings and their less experienced fathers. Both matches were contested with great enthusiasm, and the young guns put up a real fight, but it was fathers who saved the day and avoided any embarrassment that no doubt would have been the talk of the town! Mark would like to thank all of those who came along to take part in the fun, and to Werrington Cricket Club for so kindly hosting the event.
